   Proposal Description:
   1) Investigate the differences between the groups on a set of                     neuropsychological tests. Depression has shown to poorly affect outcomes for      testing. It would be expected that some areas (attention, processing speed)       will be more affected that others in depressed patients. Where these              differences occur between the two groups would shed a light on both groups'       specific cognitive areas and how much or little they are affected/measured by     neuropsychological tests. (As an exploratory study, MRI data would be compared    to SPECT data that this researcher has on Alzheimer's patients and others).       2) This study could inform treatment for the two conditions and open the eyes     of neuropsychologists to the similarities (if they exist) between the two         conditions. To assist in differentially diagnosing, prevent false diagnoses,      support neuropsychological testing as imperative for proper diagnosis/proper      treatment.
